People who live in Southern California and even those living here in the South Bay refer to these areas as either ‘sections’ or ‘neighborhoods’. They are as follows:
The ‘MANHATTAN SAND’ Section:
This includes all of the homes that are situated along the entire beach area and 4-5 blocks inland. It includes: a. The Strand Section, b. The Walk Streets Section, and c. The North Manhattan Section.
a. The ‘STRAND’ Section: Is part of the MANHATTAN SAND Section and has the large homes and mansions that face the beach along the Strand.
b. The ‘WALK STREETS’ Section: Is part of the MANHATTAN SAND Section with the pedestrian streets located just east of the Strand homes. These so called streets are really very wide sidewalks that run east to west allowing pedestrians to have access to the beaches from Manhattan Avenue and the homes face the sidewalks with their garages in the rear alleys that run behind the homes.
c. The ‘NORTH MANHATTAN’ Section: Is part of the MANHATTAN SAND Section. This is what used to be called ‘El Porto’ which was a county of Los Angeles area on the northern most section that borders the city of El Segundo and has a small business section and many small beach homes.
The ‘MANHATTAN HILL’ Section:
This area is in the hills above the city and has expensive, large homes on large lots. 2nd most expensive area of Manhattan Beach. Many have views of the city and the ocean.
The ‘MANHATTAN TREE’ Section:
This area is located east of the city, in little valleys, with many trees lining the streets. It is a family oriented area with smaller and older homes and cottages, many of which are being torn down and replaced with single family residences. Some homes are in the hills also.
The ‘EAST MANHATTAN’ Section:
This Section is located on the east border with the city’s of Hawthorne and Lawndale, and includes: a. The ‘Liberty Village’ Section, b. The ‘Manhattan Heights’ Section, and c. The ‘Manhattan Village’ Section.
a. The ‘LIBERTY VILLAGE’ Section: An area made up of many tract type homes built after World War II, for the influx of people into the city. Large lots and single family homes, many being replaced by newer single family homes, with big yards.
b. The ‘MANHATTAN HEIGHTS’ Section: Same on ‘Liberty Village’ background and homes.
c. The ‘MANHATTAN VILLAGE’ Section: A gated community of luxurious town homes and patio/court homes and estate homes. Golfing, soccer field, parks and a pool is for the exclusive use of residents. Many celebs and famous sports stars live here for the seclusion and privacy.
